I think everyone I know in NYC is excited for this. The king of electroswing is back and we couldn’t be happier. There’s buzz for a party, and then there’s everyone you know liking each other’s “Attending” updates on the event page. Parov Stelar has become a beacon in the dark for a lot of vintage dance music fans out there. Right from the beginning, fans would get down to his music wherever they could, even their own basements. Thankfully, at Playstation Theater, we’re going to have a prime opportunity to get down properly. The theater, just off Times Square, is just big enough that the dance floor will be able to accommodate swing while comfortable enough that it won’t seem like a meatmarket or a cavern.
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twqM56f_cVo] I think I first fell in love with Parov Stelar back in 2009 when this Catgroove dance video hit YouTube. After seeing this, it was all electroswing, all the time. For me anyway. But I’d imagine, given the volume of friends who purchased tickets the day the show was announced, lots of others share my sentiment. Tickets are going very quickly so don’t get left out in the cold on this one.[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/146080481″ params=”auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”120″ iframe=”true” /]If you haven’t been paying attention, the king of electroswing isn’t just king of electroswing anymore. His more recent work definitely veers into other genres while remaining solidly groovy & funktastic. That’s right, if you’re one of the people who didn’t catch this mix last time, here it is, in all of its 2.2million play glory. The driving feel behind the sonic perfection of Lana Del Rey is exactly what Parov Stelar is known for. And he’s going to have a great set up in Playstation theater. Live appearances by Parov Stelar are exceedingly rare, as he brings brass & rhythm sections along with him. This isn’t just a DJ set folks, Cleo Panther, one of Parov Stelar’s prized featured vocalists will be accompanying him & his band. Honestly, that makes the event a must-attend. The stadium seating, food & surprisingly large selection of drinks and places to chill make Playstation Theater one of the rarer comforts in the club/venue landscape here in the city with the shuttering of Roseland Ballroom.

With vintage swing & fancy fashion events happening more and more often in the city, some of us are hoping this event reminds everyone just how popular this sound is and how well it can do here. if this snowballs into NYC being a bigger electroswing & vintage sound city, I think everyone will rejoice. Even the steampunk fanboys who don’t smile at anything. There’s a lot of potential for non-EDM in this city, and Parov Stelar is decidedly nowhere near Steve Aoki when it comes to sound or party vibe. That is a win for us all.

Get Tickets here because this will most certainly sell out. This is Terry Gotham, see you on the dance floor.
