“The song serves as ode to the lively rhythms of Suriname with a splash of South African afro-house that fully exemplifies Global Club Music’s hybrid nature.” -Hypetrak “On Top”
“Branko’s “Take Off” makes me want to take off into the concrete jungle. Why? Because the production is twisted, twinkling, dark, and makes me want to move around in stealth.” –Noisey on “Take Off”
“Not so long ago, Buraka Som Sistema member Branko told The FADER, “Personally I think zouk and kizomba could really add a new direction to R&B and take it back to the roots in a really creative way.” As part of the recording process for his new album ATLAS, the Portuguese producer found himself in Cape Town with singer Nonku Phiri and L.A. beatmaker Mr. Carmack testing out exactly that theory; and the result is the super smooth ‘Let Me Go.’ –The FADER on “Let Me Go”
“the song is subtly engaging in a way that makes it seem like a hypnotizingly expansive work.”
-Okayafrica on “Eventually”
Coinciding with the release of Branko’s debut solo album, Atlas, the documentary series Atlas Unfolded will premiere a new webisode every day from August 31st – September 4th, 2015 on daily.redbullmusicacademy.com.
Atlas Unfolded is the visual documentation of Branko’s five-part journey to Cape Town (South Africa), New York (USA), São Paulo (Brazil), Amsterdam (Netherlands) and Lisbon (Portugal), where he worked with his favourite up-and-coming artists while taking in local inspiration. “Trying to transform a 12-hour musical relationship into something people want to listen to is a challenge,” says the Lisbon-based DJ, producer, co-founder of Buraka Som Sistema, and Red Bull Music Academy alumnus, lecturer and studio team member, about his latest adventure. It finds him embarking on a sonic journey across the planet, delving into some of the most exciting music scenes in the making of his debut solo album, Atlas.

The web-series depicts real-time studio interactions: a genuine work in progress, complete with impromptu collaborations and late-night conversations with local beat makers about burgeoning new scenes and genres in the cities they each call home. After hours of work within the Red Bull Studios network and across five different cities, Atlas comes to life with a long and culturally rich list of collaborators.

Having followed Branko’s musical and personal path as a close collaborator for more than 13 years, the Academy enables this former participant to share his very personal journey with music fans across the globe.

Atlas Unfolded #2: SAO PAULO
The second stop is São Paulo, “where Google Maps won’t save you.” In a week as hectic as the city itself, Branko starts by playing a festival stage as well as an underground party, and also finds time for some record-digging. This episode sees Branko working on the most politically-charged songwriting for Atlas with Marginal Men, MC Bin Laden, jazz instrumentalists Mauricio Takara & Guilherme Granada, Cícero, and more at the local Red Bull Studios.

Upon his arrival in the vibrant capital of South Africa, kwaito duo Ruffest takes Branko on a tour to explore the sounds of the townships around Cape Town.
