Verboten swings into fall introducing the ENTDECKEN series of discovery events, kicking off with the Flow Arts Hoop Class focusing on new ways of expression through hula hoop dancing. Also new on the culture calendar are Verboten’s Inspired Word Open Mic series and The Kings of Karaoke night, inviting all types of performing artists to take the stage. Engage in some retail therapy on Sunday, September 21, as Alter presents the Warenhaus Pop Up Dept Store featuring 14 Brooklyn-based brands. And don’t miss one last summer edition of the popular Willkommen in the Park outdoor deep house yoga on September 22, plus much more this September!
September 17 Entdecken: Flow Arts Hoop Class
7 pm + 8:30 pm
Verboten’s ENTDECKEN series kicks off with a hoop dance workshop taught by Lauryn Yovino and DJed by Alex Kofman, Erika Mysti, and Vigil in the Control Room. Choose from two phases: Phase 1 at 7 pm teaches new ways to move your body using a hula hoop as a dance prop through various tricks and dance moves, freeing up your body to express yourself. Phase 2 at 8:30 pm focuses on mastering hoopdance moves and tricks below the waist. A dance party to show off your new skills rounds off the night at 9:30 pm! Beginners and advance students are welcome. 21+. $20 ticket includes free hoop rental and one free drink.
September 17 Wunderkind Trivia Night with Special Guest Host Christian Finnegan – FREE
Stand up comedian Christian Finnegan hosts September’s edition of Wunderkind Trivia Night in the Cabaret Bar. Perhaps best known as one of the original panelists on VH1’s “Best Week Ever” and as Chad, the only white roommate in the infamous “Mad Real World” sketch of  “Chappelle’s Show,” Christian can currently be seen on the TBS sitcom “Are We There Yet?” Partnering with TrivWorks, Verboten’s Wunderkind Trivia Night is a heated, team-based battle of wits that will test both your brain and your liver with challenging questions and cool prizes including bar tabs, a table at the club, tickets to Verboten’s Wasabassco show, memberships to Chalk Gyms, and more! Wunderkind Trivia Night takes place the second Wednesday of every month with food and beer specials. Doors at 7 pm / Event at 8 pm. 21+. The event is free; arrive early for best seating.
September 18 Inspired Word Open Mic Night: Hunter + Wolf / Daniel Speiser / Matt Van Sol
The Inspired Word series presents the debut of its Open Mic Showcase at Verboten. Featuring recording artist/performance poet/songwriter Matt Van Sol, spoken word artist Storyteller, folk-rock singer/songwriter Michael Maffei, comedian Daniel Speiser and a 20-slot open mic (7 minute time limit for anything spoken, 8 minutes for anything musical). Hosted by Nathan P and produced by the long-running Inspired Word open mic series, which has featured Grammy winners, American Idol finalists, Golden Globe Award winners, Emmy nominated actors, and HBO stars, this is open to all types of performing artists, including comedians, musicians, storytellers, singers, poets, fiction/nonfiction writers, playwrights, spoken word artists, performance artists, and dancers. Doors at 7 pm / Show at 8 pm. Cover is currently $8 with early bird special tickets at $7 for one performer + 2 FREE tickets for non-performers if purchased at least a week before the event. September 20 Wasabassco: Tease to the Beat!
Voted one of the top 10 burlesque shows on the planet by Travel Channel, Wasabassco is at it again with Tease to the Beat!  NYC’s most interesting people know that this is the place to start your Saturday night date, with high octane striptease performances from the nation’s top-tier talent, incredible atmosphere, and tasty nibbles, all hosted by Sydni Deveraux. Featuring scintillating performances by the beautiful cast: Gigi LaFemme, Evelyn Vinyl, Nasty Canasta, Chris Harder, Jason Mejias, Gal Friday, Ivory Fox and Poison Ivory!
September 21 Alter presents Warenhaus [A Pop Up Dept Store]
During Sunday DJ brunch in Verboten’s Cabaret Bar, check out Warenhaus, a pop up department store presented by Alter with 14 Brooklyn-based brands, including Alter, Cadet, Courtshop, H Frediksson, I Still Love You NYC, Kill Devil Hill, M&U Co, Moves/Fony, Osborn Shoes, Purush Throne Watches, TM 1985, Trivial, and We Who Prey. Noon to 6 pm.
September 22 Outdoor Deep House Yoga: Willkommen in the Park
Verboten brings together mind, body and music with WILLKOMMEN, a weekly yoga class series accompanied by the soothing deep house DJs. After an amazing sunset session last month, the series returns to Havemeyer Park for one last summer edition of Willkommen in the Park instructed by Gina Benanati with musical accompaniment from DJs George Faya and Tasha Blank. Meditation will take place in the teepee before yoga. Beer, wine and vegetarian tacos available. Doors at 6 pm / yoga at 7 pm. Havemeyer Park / South 4th St and Kent Ave.
September 24 The Kings of Karaoke – FREE
Verboten presents a new karaoke series produced by The Kings of Karaoke. Founded in Brooklyn in 2001, The Kings of Karaoke have been throwing parties for over 13 years…and it shows. The Kings of Karaoke’s experienced KJ’s know how to bring you on a musical journey, offering a mixtape of indie, soul, metal, punk, and new wave between the performers that will keep you on your feet and moving. The Kings of Karaoke’s request-built songbook will blow your mind and the no-numbers sign up system makes selecting songs that range from Fugazi to Frankie Valli, from Carcass to Kajagoogoo, much easier. Do your vocal warm-ups, tell your friends, and get ready to dance! Future karaoke events will feature guest hosts and a live band. Food and drink specials will be available.
DJ Brunch – Saturday + Sunday
Indulged in some late night revelry? Verboten’s got you covered with its DJ Brunch series every Saturday and Sunday. Revive yourself in Verboten’s beautiful skylit Cabaret Bar, featuring rotating art exhibits and complete with a crisp Martin Audio sound system. Verboten is breaking the mold of traditional brunch by serving food from 12pm – 8pm, catering to those who like to stay out late and still enjoy delicious brunch fare and specialty cocktails, alongside music from Verboten’s celebrated artist roster spinning from 12pm into the night.

Verboten brings together mind, body and music with WILLKOMMEN, a weekly yoga class series accompanied by the soothing deep house music of DJs George Faya and Tasha Blank. The classes take advantage of Verboten’s large, skylit Control Room and cushioned, reclaimed wood floor, and feature Lululemon yoga mats and complimentary snacks from Divine Chocolates.  Smoothies, water, coconut water and full bar are available.
